Mater Dei’s Young, Hofstetter Help Turn Back Dana Hills

Marissa Young had two doubles and a single and drove in two runs as second-ranked Mater Dei beat host Dana Hills, 9-1, in a South Coast League softball game Friday.
Lanie Horne had a single and double and drove in two runs for Mater Dei (20-1, 5-0).
Brooke Hofstetter (10-0) pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 for Mater Dei.
Dana Hills’ run was the first Mater Dei has given up in league play this season.
In other South Coast League games:
San Clemente 10, Mission Viejo 1--Melissa Naylon had two hits and two RBIs for visiting San Clemente (16-7, 4-2).
Capistrano Valley 4, Trabuco Hills 0--Jennifer Sutherland pitched a three-hitter for visiting Capistrano Valley, which scored three runs in the seventh.
In the Sea View League:
Woodbridge 12, Corona del Mar 0--Kristy Clark had two hits and four RBIs and Nicole Thompson had three hits and an RBI for fifth-ranked Woodbridge (20-5, 6-0).
Tracy Alcarez pitched a one-hitter, striking out six and walking none.
El Toro 8, Newport Harbor 1--Jennifer Hamer had two hits and two RBIs for ninth-ranked El Toro (16-10, 5-1).
In the Golden West League:
Rosary 1, Tustin 0--Julie Luna pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts for Rosary (17-8, 5-1). Lesley Fulton had two hits and an RBI for the Royals. Fulton’s third-inning single drove in Erin Connors for the game’s only run.
In the Academy League:
St. Margaret’s 16, Fairmont 0 (5, mercy)--Gina Arreola and Cristi Avrill each had three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs for host St. Margaret’s (10-4, 5-1). Amber Arnold struck out 14 in a one-hitter for St. Margaret’s.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Villa Park 137, Buena Park 31--Jenny Michel recorded personal bests in the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle for sixth-ranked Villa Park (10-1). Michel won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.64 and the 200 freestyle in 2:07.20.
Canyon 128, Cypress 39--Darby Schlaht won the 200 freestyle (2:09.2) and the 100 freestyle (59.4) for Canyon (7-4). Teammate Lauri Osuna won the 100 butterfly (1:05.1) and the 500 freestyle (5:41.8) for the Comanches.
In Empire League tennis:
Cypress 16, Katella 8--Bryan Woo swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, for Cypress (10-10, 4-6).
