In Praise of the Bonpanes’ Generosity and Compassion
- Share via
Finally, some good news. “Speaking Their Peace” (April 7), which highlighted Blase and Theresa Bonpane was most welcome. They are tireless in their consistent, joyous, intense work to improve the lives of all of us.
They are helping us understand that huge insurance companies, gigantic corporations and merged-for-profit banks are more of a threat than “big government.” Our freedoms are being downsized by corporations, not single moms. It is the HMOs that are controlling our lives, not government health departments. The neo-liberal privatization schemes are rewarding the few not the many.
The Bonpanes continue to help the many of us learn to help ourselves. They use the weapons of integrity, energy, intelligence, virtue, education and compassion. They are great folks with whom to share our planet.

Thank you for publishing the interesting article about two compassionate and generous people, Theresa and Blase Bonpane.
I’m just sorry Kevin Baxter almost trashed his article by quoting Hugh Hewitt on the Bonpanes. A list of those Hewitt admires would turn your stomach. His total lack of concern for the unfortunate of the world, constantly shown by his utterances daily via radio and TV (“Life and Times,” KCET) disqualify him as a judge of any aspect of the Bonpanes’ lives.

Many thanks for your article on Theresa and Blase Bonpane. This is one of the most inspirational things I have read in The Times in weeks. We all should only accomplish in our lives 10% of what these people have done.
