BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Rockies’ Swift, Leskanic Switch Places

The Colorado Rockies activated right-hander Bill Swift to start today and put reliever Curtis Leskanic on the 15-day disabled list because of right shoulder inflammation. Swift has had the same problem all season, and pitched only two innings in spring training before stopping because of persistent pain.

San Francisco second baseman Robby Thompson, on the 15-day disabled list since Friday because of a neck injury, returned to the Bay Area on Saturday for X-rays and an MRI exam. No acute damage was discovered, but the tests revealed there is mild arthritis in his neck. . . . The Oakland Athletics put outfielder Pedro Munoz on the 15-day disabled because of a strained left knee and recalled infielder Tony Batista from triple-A Edmonton. . . . The Philadelphia Phillies announced they will activate first baseman Gregg Jefferies on Tuesday. They optioned pitcher Michael Mimbs and shortstop Kevin Stocker to triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and called up shortstop Kevin Sefcik from there. . . . The Minnesota Twins put infielder/outfielder Denny Hocking on the 15-day disabled list because of a small tear of the lateral meniscus in his right knee and purchased the contract of pitcher Mike Trombley from triple-A Salt Lake.
