Bomb Squad Called to Uncork Mystery Gift

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad was called to the East County Sheriff’s Station in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday night to check out a suspicious package.
What bomb specialists Paul Higgason and Larry Bull discovered was three bottles of wine.
The incident began about 6:25 p.m., according to Sgt. Rod Mendoza, when a woman walked into the station at 2101 E. Olsen Road carrying an unexpected package she had received in the mail.
The 10- by 16-inch package was commercially wrapped, with a return address to a business in Redondo Beach. A label read “Light and Heat Sensitive.”
The building was cleared and the bomb squad, along with personnel from the Ventura County Fire Department, was called in.
The wine turned out to be a housewarming present from a company that had built a house for the woman.
