Police Play Ball to Aid Officer’s Family

Police and firefighters from all over the Southwest plan to converge on Simi Valley on Saturday for a two-day softball tournament to benefit the family of slain Police Officer Michael Frederick Clark.
Clark was shot to death in August in a gun battle with former social studies teacher Daniel Allan Tuffree, who is on trial now for murder. Clark’s death left behind his widow, Jenifer, and son, Bayley, who recently celebrated his first birthday.
The tournament to benefit the Michael Clark Trust Fund pits 20 teams of police and firefighters from California, Nevada and Arizona against each other in 65 games spread over two days at the Rancho Santa Susana Softball Complex.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Wolfe organized the tournament, and plans to raise money for the fund through donations, team fees, business sponsorships and T-shirt sales.
The tourney also will raise money at a barbecue scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the sports complex.
Admission to the games is free. Anyone who wants to sponsor a game or donate prizes should call Wolfe at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lost Hills Station at (818) 878-1808.
