BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA : Woman Found After 4 Years in Hiding
- Share via
A hunter stumbled upon a Bosnian Muslim woman who had been hiding in the woods since Serbian forces captured the town of Jajce nearly four years ago, state television reported. The hunter found 49-year-old Zejna Elkaz a week ago in a forest near Jajce where she had hidden in a makeshift shelter after the town fell on Nov. 2, 1992, the report said. She and her ill mother, together with 11 other neighbors, were captured by the Serbs that day. Elkaz escaped, but the Serbs killed the others, including her mother, the television reported. She survived on the food she managed to occasionally sneak from the village and on whatever else she could find in the woods.
