Troy Glaus hit two home runs and the U.S. national baseball team extended its winning streak to 32 games by rallying from a four-run deficit to beat Australia, 11-6, in Baton Rouge, La.
The U.S. made four errors in the first two innings, and Australia took a 4-0 lead with only one earned run.
“That was unusual,” Coach Skip Bertman said. “We’ve only made three errors all summer, so I’m not worried.”
But the Americans (11-0) scored seven runs in the fourth inning--the team’s most prolific inning this season--for a 7-4 lead.
Glaus hit his first home run to make it 4-3, and Warren Morris, playing before his home crowd for the first time since Louisiana State won the College World Series, made up for two early errors with a long double that tied the game.
The other LSU player on the U.S. squad, Jason Williams, doubled in two more runs to put the United States up, 6-4, and added the final run of the inning when he scored from third after a throw from right field went into the dugout.
