Man Gets 21 Months in 3M Embezzlement

A Simi Valley man who admitted stealing more than $1.25 million from his Northridge employer was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
During an address to Judge Harry L. Hupp in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Monday, Andrew P. Simko apologized to his former company for taking the money.
“He publicly apologized in court for harming the 3M Co.,” said Assistant U.S. Atty. Ellyn Lindsay, who prosecuted the case.
Simko, 50, pleaded guilty in April to embezzling more than $1.25 million while he was employed as a credit supervisor at 3M’s pharmaceutical plant in Northridge.
He admitted setting up two shell companies to receive more than 170 checks he stole from the firm. Simko later underreported his income to federal authorities, prosecutors said.
