Giants Trade Carreon for Poole

Cleveland traded left-handed relief pitcher Jim Poole to the San Francisco Giants for first baseman-outfielder Mark Carreon.

Cleveland’s regular first baseman Julio Franco has a hamstring pull, and Eddie Murray has been struggling, hitting .260 with 11 homers and 39 runs batted in, so the trade for Carreon improves the Indians’ flexibility.

Cleveland sources suggest it could mean the end for Murray. A scout said, “Unless [a pitch is] in the low 80s, Eddie can’t get around on it anymore.”
