GARDEN GROVE — A 3-year-old girl suffered head injuries Wednesday night after tumbling from a second-story window, fire officials said.
The girl, whose name was not released, apparently pushed her way through a window screen in an upstairs apartment in the 9500 block of Washington Avenue, according to Capt. Richard Kelly of the Garden Grove Fire Department. She was in stable but guarded condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange after undergoing treatment for skull fractures, he said.
“With head injuries things can get worse as a little time passes, and that’s what we saw in this case,” Kelly said. “While we were transporting her [to the hospital], she lost consciousness and began vomiting.”
The child’s mother and two siblings were home at the time of the incident, Kelly said, but it appeared the girl managed to get through the screen while they were not looking.
