Passenger Dies in Auto Collision

A 19-year-old Oxnard man was killed on Victoria Avenue after the car in which he was riding was hit by another vehicle, a CHP spokesman said.

Karl Liporada was on the passenger side of a Toyota sedan that had stopped at the intersection of Victoria and Doris avenues late Sunday evening when the car was hit from behind by a Nissan driven by Charmaine Lievre, 18, of Ventura, CHP spokesman Dave Cockrill said.

Lievre told officers she did not see the Toyota, Cockrill said.

The Toyota was pushed across the intersection, and Liporada died at the scene, Cockrill said.

Lievre and her passenger were treated at local hospitals for minor injuries and released. The driver of the Nissan was also treated for minor injuries and released, Cockrill said.

The accident is under investigation.
