A 39-year-old woman stranded in a car on the Santa Ana Freeway in Boyle Heights was in stable condition Monday after being shot in the head, police said Monday.
Imedla Barba, another woman and a 3-year-old girl were passengers in a car that had run out of gas near the Euclid Avenue exit about 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, said Los Angeles Police Officer Eduardo Funes. The passengers were waiting for the driver to return from a service station when shots rang out and a bullet pierced the rear windshield, striking Barba.
She was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where her condition was upgraded Monday from critical to serious but stable, said hospital spokeswoman Adelaida De La Cerda.
