The city’s 20th annual Ocean Festival will be Saturday and Sunday at the pier.
Billed as the “Greatest Show on Surf,” the free public event will feature lifeguard races, sand sculpture and surfing contests, a volleyball tournament, a “woody” car exhibition, surf music and an art show.
Children’s activities will include face-painting, beach relays, a costume parade and science exhibit.
Organizers said they expect the two-day festival, established in 1976 as a lifeguard competition, to draw between 35,000 and 45,000 visitors this year.
Free shuttle service from San Clemente High School, 700 Avenida Pico, to the pier will be available from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
