Schools Breakup Group Plans Meeting

The San Fernando Valley group that wants to split the sprawling Los Angeles Unified School District--dubbed the L.A. Breakup Campaign--will host a meeting Saturday to discuss the best way to divide the district.
The group seeks community input on how to cleave the district, said Stephanie Carter, a Tarzana parent. The meeting will explore details of district division, including demography.
Carter and Diana Dixon-Davis, a Chatsworth resident, are the chairwomen of the breakup campaign. Along with dozens of other activists, they are working on plans to split Valley schools away from the 650,000-student LAUSD. By summer’s end, the group hopes to submit a breakup plan to county education officials--the first step in a multiyear process.
The meeting will take place between 10 a.m. and noon at the Mid-Valley Public Library, 16244 Nordhoff St., North Hills. For information, call (818) 343-6030.
