Chapman Preparing for Chico State

Chapman’s football team is taking it a little easier this week because they have Saturday off, Coach Ken Visser said.
The Panthers next play Chico State Oct. 5 at home. Visser is concerned with how his team will respond.
“Chico State will have four games under their belt,” Visser said. “They should be hitting their midseason stride whereas we are still searching a little bit to see what we are about.”
Chapman has defeated Eastern Oregon State, 24-6, and Redlands, 57-7. Last season, Chapman won, 10-7, at Chico.

Statistical adjustment: Chapman issued corrected rushing stats for Darnell Morgan against Redlands. Morgan, thought to have rushed for a school-record 259 yards, actually had 246, 12 short of his record. Morgan ranks fifth in the nation in Division III with a 186-yard average.
The Panthers did set school records in total offense (644 yards) and rushing offense (512) against Redlands. Those marks are also the best in Division III this year.

Injury report: Starting fullback Taliv Traylor injured his knee against Redlands and Wednesday was told that there is ligament damage. It will probably sideline him for the season. Reserve running back Alex Zepeda has a seriously dislocated shoulder and is expected to miss at least four weeks.

The Chapman men’s soccer team will host Occidental at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
