Schools to Face Off Over Breakfast

It’s championship week in Ventura County, and the athletic programs at Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks high schools are preparing to renew the oldest football rivalry in the Conejo Valley.
Starting at 9 a.m. today, players, cheerleaders and football boosters from the two schools will meet in the second annual Sizzler Bowl--a pancake breakfast at the Sizzler restaurant in Thousand Oaks featuring friendly contests between the two teams.
The kickoff breakfast leads up to the 27th game between the Newbury Park Panthers and the Thousand Oaks Lancers, with both teams still in the hunt for the Marmonte League Championship. In previous meetings, Thousand Oaks High School has won 15 of the games while Newbury Park has won 10. There has been one tie.
As added incentive, the Conejo Valley Championship Perpetual Trophy will also be on the line during the Nov. 15 matchup at 7:30 p.m. at Newbury Park’s stadium.
Football boosters are invited to attend today’s pancake breakfast at Sizzler, 401 N. Moorpark Road. For more information call 496-5593.
