Mural Dedication to Honor Chavez

Members of the Parent Center at San Fernando Middle School and CultuAztlan, a Latino artists’ group, are inviting the public to join them Sunday for a dedication of a new mural honoring the life of Cesar Chavez.
The mural, 15 feet by 15 feet, covers the wall of a building that houses the Parent Center on the campus of San Fernando Middle School. It includes a portrait of Chavez surrounded by scenes of farm workers in the fields, and an image of the leader in a demonstration to improve the living conditions of the workers.
The mural was painted by artist Frank Martinez, a lifelong resident of Pacoima who, since March, has been volunteering his time for the project.
Invited guests include San Fernando Mayor Rosa Chacon, City Councilman Richard Alarcon and United Farm Workers’ Union representative Roman Pinal, who will deliver a brief talk.
San Fernando Middle School is at 130 N. Brand Ave. The dedication is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
