SCC Meets Azusa Pacific for Title

Southern California College plays Azusa Pacific for the Golden State Athletic Conference championship at 6 tonight at Azusa Pacific.
A week ago, the Vanguards lost to the Cougars, 4-0, on the same field in their regular-season finale, but SCC has been upset minded lately.
The Vanguards (9-8-1) beat Westmont, 2-1, Tuesday, 2 1/2 weeks after losing 4-0 to the same team.
The winner of tonight’s game advances to the NAIA Far West Regional Championship Nov. 16.
SCC had four players named to the all-conference team. Sophomore Mike Ditta was a first-team selection and sophomore Henry Lopez, junior Chuy Miramontes and senior Peter Schumerth were second-team picks.
Concordia goalkeeper Tom Pfotenhauer, a sophomore, was named to the second team.

Women’s soccer: Southern California College forward Lori Van Herk was named to the NAIA All-Far West Region team. Van Herk, a senior who played at Cypress College and Kennedy High, had eight goals and nine assists for the Vanguards, who finished the season 10-8-1, 2-5-1 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Rowing: The newly formed men’s and women’s crew teams at Chapman will make their first competitive appearances Sunday at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport Harbor.
