Elegant Accuracy

On Sept. 18, I bounded up the steps of my favorite stop in London, Number Sixteen at 16 Sumner Place. An annual guest, I would not trade the convenient location, congenial staff or comfortably elegant air in every room for anything.
Waiting for me at the front desk was an large envelope containing a fax from a friend in Los Angeles: your article on “Best London Hotels, Pound for Pound,” (Sept. 15) featuring the top 10 for value and style. I was not surprised to find Number Sixteen on the list for style.
There followed an attentive and giddy huddle on both sides of the desk as I read their “two inches” of Los Angeles Times Travel fame.
I thought you’d like to know how impeccable your timing was.
