In an attempt to revitalize its ailing commercial district and attract new businesses, Lomita city officials have agreed to move ahead with a redevelopment plan to give business a boost.
The city council voted 3 to 1 last week to pump more than $250,000 into a renovation project in the downtown area and various locations on Pacific Coast Highway.
The city has hired the Rosenow Spevacek Group, a Santa Ana-based redevelopment consultant, to study the city before the project begins. The study is scheduled to be completed in July.
Over the last few years, a number of small businesses have closed their doors after large chain stores opened in the Crossroads Shopping Center and in neighboring Torrance.
