Ojai Man Receives Award for Aiding Library

George Berg of Ojai was awarded the California Library Assn.’s 1996 President’s Award for his efforts to find funding sources for the Ventura County library system.
Berg, a retired engineer, led two campaigns to pass a parcel tax benefiting the Ojai Library. The first campaign failed in November 1995 by a small margin. Berg spearheaded a successful second campaign in March, which has allowed the Ojai Library to open daily and increase hours from 24 to 55 per week.
Berg is also active in the countywide Save Our Libraries. He is a founding board member and vice president of the Ojai Valley Library Foundation.
The President’s Award has been presented annually since 1993 to recognize citizens, library trustees and elected officials who have made outstanding contributions to California libraries.
