Literacy Program Honors Simi Valley Tutor

California Literacy awarded Joanne Dougherty of Simi Valley its annual statewide Literacy Tutor of the Year Award.
Dougherty, a volunteer for the county Library Services Agency’s Reading Program for Adults, was nominated for the award by her student Glen Slattery. Working together for more than a year, Slattery credited Dougherty with helping him overcome an inability to read because of dyslexia.
California Literacy is a nonprofit educational organization that provides statewide assistance to literacy programs in training, resources, consultation and advocacy.
