Foothill Gets Enough Support to Beat Tritons

MISSION VIEJO — Jason Korengold and Ryan Carroll are usually overshadowed by the more familiar names on Foothill’s water polo team.
In Saturday’s Division I semifinal game against San Clemente, the seniors basked in the sunlight after each scored key goals in the Knights’ 9-5 victory at Saddleback College.
San Clemente had tied the score, 3-3, on Jordan Hewko’s goal early in the second half. And, for the first time, it appeared as if San Clemente was gathering confidence against the second-seeded Knights.
But two possessions later Korengold slammed a shot into the near-side of the goal from a difficult angle.
Jeremy Katz added to the lead about a minute later, when he scored one of his game-high four goals. Carroll then scored on Foothill’s third consecutive possession when he ball-faked charging goalkeeper Cameron Thom, and lifted a shot over his head for a three-goal lead.
Foothill (26-2) will face a familiar foe in Wednesday’s final, Long Beach Wilson, who the Knights have played four times this season, each handing the other their only two losses.
