British Airways plans to ban smoking on all its flights between the United States and Britain starting Jan. 1, 1997. Its two daily flights from Los Angeles to Britain are currently split: One allows smoking, the other doesn’t. . . .Today, what is billed as the world’s largest cruise ship was scheduled to leave Miami on its maiden voyage, a seven-day Caribbean cruise. Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Destiny weighs in at 101,353 gross-registered tons. The Destiny won’t be making any West Coast calls because it is too wide to pass through the Panama Canal, a Carnival spokeswoman said. . . . Theater fans can secure tickets to London’s Off-West End and Fringe district shows, as well as West End productions, before going to Britain by calling Theatre Direct in New York.
