Golden West, Fullerton Get Berths in Regional Playoffs

Golden West and Fullerton, which tied for the Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball title, and third-place Saddleback received berths in the Southern California playoffs.
The pairings for the six-team field were announced Sunday.
Golden West (20-1), seeded second, plays No. 15 College of the Canyons (10-7) in the first round Tuesday. Third-seeded Fullerton (14-2) hosts No. 14 Chaffey (12-5) and No. 11 Saddleback (12-7) is at No. 6 Palomar (15-1) in Tuesday’s other first-round matches. Times will be announced today.
The second round will be on Saturday and the four finalists move to the state tournament, which is Dec. 6-8 at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.

The Rancho Santiago men’s soccer team, the defending state champion, is seeded second in the eight-team field. The Dons, who won the Orange Empire Conference championship this season, will host No. 7 San Diego Mesa in Tuesday’s first round. Also playing in Tuesday’s first round will be No. 6 Irvine Valley at No. 3 Santa Barbara City. Both games start at 3 p.m.
The second round will be on Saturday and the men’s and women’s state tournament is Dec. 7-8 at Consumnes River College in Sacramento.
In the women’s pairings: Cypress, the Orange Empire Conference champion, is seeded second and will host No. 7 Long Beach at Cal State Fullerton Tuesday at 7 p.m. Orange Coast, seeded sixth, is at No. 3 Ventura Tuesday. The second round is on Saturday.
