Western Digital Plans New Notebook Drive

Irvine-based Western Digital Corp. said it will start selling new, more powerful disk drives for notebook computers. The new drives are larger than the industry standard, giving them 70% more capacity per disk, the company said. Western Digital shares rose $4.875 to close at $58.625 on the NYSE. Analysts said the new product could make Western Digital a strong competitor in the growing notebook market.
