Aliso Viejo Aliso Niguel 32, Garden Grove Pacifica 21--Scott Nemeth rushed for 238 yards and three touchdowns on a muddy field to lead the Wolverines in the Division VIII championship in front of 8,000 at Orange Coast College.
Top-seeded Aliso Niguel, in only its third season of varsity football, finished the season 14-0. Nemeth scored on runs of 55 and 47 yards in the first half, then gave Aliso Niguel a 25-21 lead late in the third quarter with a 51-yard run.
Pacifica (10-4), which qualified for the playoffs as an at-large entry, took a 21-18 third-quarter lead on quarterback J.D. Stern’s 24 yard-touchdown pass to Darrell Miles. Stern passed for 210 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Aliso Niguel sealed the game on Wes Thomas’ 32-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Mashburn with six minutes remaining.
