LAKE SHERWOOD — Officials from the Ventura County medical examiner’s office are investigating the death Saturday of a 6-year-old boy who was found submerged about 12 feet from shore in Lake Sherwood.
Sheriff’s Det. Maureen Hookstra said the Latino boy’s body was pulled from the lake about 8:45 p.m.
The boy’s father, a groundskeeper at Lake Sherwood, was working on a house Saturday afternoon while his son played across the street, Hookstra said.
The father began looking for the youngster but just after 3 p.m. went to the front gate of the Lake Sherwood community and asked the guard to contact the Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities did not release the name of the child or father.
Three helicopters from the Sheriff’s Department joined county Fire Department crews and community volunteers in the search.
Authorities have not determined the cause of death.
