Hot Streak Continues for Chapman

Chapman continued its torrid start and shot 52% from the field in an 82-60 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday at Claremont.
Toby Curto and Darren Crooks each scored 11 points for the Panthers (8-1), who forced 26 turnovers and held Claremont to 42% shooting from the field.
Thirteen of Chapman’s 15 players scored. The Panthers broke the game open by outscoring Claremont, 41-26, in the second half.
In other nonconference games:
Cal Lutheran 105, Pacific Christian College 71--Brian Capella scored 18 points for Cal Lutheran (5-0), which shot 55% from the field and scored 60 second-half points.
Axel Magaritha had 16 points and eight rebounds for Pacific Christian (2-13), which shot 29% from the field in the second half and committed 27 turnovers.
Cal State Los Angeles 73, Concordia 55--Rick Haywood scored 15 points and Kalim Scott added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Concordia (4-5), which trailed, 34-14, at halftime after shooting 17% from the field in the half.
Simaine Stewart had 22 points for Cal State Los Angeles (5-1).
In the UC Irvine/ Newport Marriott Classic:
Colorado State 77, UC Irvine 65--Sophomore Katie Cronin had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Becky Hammon scored 19 points for Colorado State (8-1).
Leticia Oseguera had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Sabrina Roberson scored 13 points for Irvine (2-4), which made only 10 of 23 free throws.
In nonconference games:
Claremont Mudd-Scripps 73, Chapman 52--Lyndsay Brown scored 18 points in only 17 minutes of playing time for the Panthers (3-2), who made only two of 17 three-point attempts and shot 24% from the field in the second half.
Mindy Bagatelo had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Claremont (5-2).
At the Claremont Pentathlon Invitational swim meet:
Irvine women win--Stacy Rosenberg won the 100 freestyle (55.40 seconds) and 200 individual medley (2 minutes 17.01 seconds) to lead the Anteaters. Erin Nomoto won the 100 butterfly (1:01.39) and Maria Crompton won the 100 backstroke (1:03.89) for Irvine.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the men’s competition; Irvine finished second. Omar Amr was Irvine’s only winner in the 100 freestyle (47.47).
