Making Cents: Your Extra Check’s in the Mail
Some people got an extra paycheck last year--or will in 1997. Because there are always one or two days beyond 52 weeks a year, every six years or so a 53rd payday (or, less often, a 27th payday for those paid every two weeks) will occur in a year. If Jan. 1 was a payday for you, you’ve got an extra Wednesday check coming this year. In 1996, it was an extra Monday. It may be a pleasant surprise--and a tax consideration.
