Soldier Accused of Rape Found Dead

A soldier facing trial on a charge of raping a fellow trainee at the Army’s scandal-plagued Aberdeen Proving Ground was found dead in his barracks, apparently from suicide. The soldier, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was found by his roommate, said Ed Starnes, spokesman for the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School north of Baltimore. Starnes said the private, who had not been in custody, was scheduled to be court-martialed on a charge of raping a female trainee in June. He said the charge against the soldier was not part of the post’s wide-ranging sex scandal.
