30 Youth Sports Groups Get Grants From ’84 Olympic Fund

Thirty youth sports organizations have been awarded a total of $1,378,715 in new grants by the Amateur Athletic Foundation, the group charged with disseminating funds from the 1984 Olympic surplus.
The largest of the grants was $500,000 to the Kids in Sports group to provide year-round programs at 12 parks and schools for more than 5,000 youths in inner-city Los Angeles.
Other awards included $250,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in Watts / Willowbrook, $150,000 to the National Junior Tennis League, $131,000 to construct a new Little League baseball complex in South Los Angeles and $52,960 to the Fitness Alliance of Los Angeles.
Smaller grants went to such scattered locales as Pasadena, Temecula, San Bernardino, Culver City and Palm Desert.
