Police captured a man Friday suspected of being the “Old Cowboy Bandit,” accused of at least a dozen armed robberies, after a car chase through city streets that ended in Pacoima with a scuffle and one shot fired.
A police car rammed the auto of Dale Sullivan, 46, pinning it against a utility pole on Laurel Canyon Boulevard shortly after noon, according Valley Bureau Deputy Chief Martin Pomeroy.
One officer fired a shot at Sullivan, missing him, Pomeroy said.
Four officers were treated for minor injuries suffered in a scuffle with Sullivan as he tried to flee, Pomeroy said. Sullivan was treated for injuries that “were consistent with being in a traffic accident,” Pomeroy said.
Officers recovered a starter pistol from the man’s car as well as a cowboy hat and leather jacket, apparel consistent with the outfit worn by the “Old Cowboy Bandit,” whom police have been seeking in a series of armed robberies that began in December, Pomeroy said.
