City Atty. Richard K. Denhalter announced this week that he is leaving the city to take a job in San Diego.
Denhalter, who has worked for the city since March 1992, said he has accepted a position as chief deputy county counsel for San Diego County and will begin work there Feb. 10.
“San Juan is just a wonderful place to work,” said Denhalter, 49. “That’s a little hard to leave.”
Before coming to San Juan Capistrano, Denhalter held city attorney positions in the Bay Area and for Placer County.
An interim city attorney will be selected for a minimum of three months while the City Council considers various alternatives, officials said.
