Trash Man to Keep Job Despite Big Win

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An overnight millionaire is sticking with his night job of picking up trash in New York City. Sergio Martini, 50, and his wife, Elena, 44, won $10.3 million in Powerball, a lottery shared by several states and based in Iowa. Although his wife quit her health food store job, Sergio will stay with the New York Sanitation Department for 2 1/2 more years so he can collect a pension. The Brewster, N.Y., couple were about to file for bankruptcy when Martini bought the winning ticket for the Jan. 4 drawing at a Connecticut store.
