Hunters Bring Sylmar Up Short

With David Redmond out of the lineup serving a one-game suspension, Canoga Park High found others to fill the void Friday.
Three Canoga Park starters combined for 70 points and 30 rebounds as the Hunters (11-8, 3-1 in conference play) pulled out an 85-80 victory over Sylmar (8-9, 2-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference boys’ basketball game.
Redmond, who, along with Van Nuys’ Joseph Dural, was ejected from Wednesday’s game for an on-court altercation, was not allowed to play Friday.
But with Jeff Turner pulling down 16 rebounds and Vlady Sandoval making five three-pointers, Redmond was barely missed.
Sandoval scored 22 points and Turner added 19, including 10 points on follow shots. Carloes Harper shot his average, 29 points.
There were seven ties and nine lead changes in the second and third quarters. Canoga Park took the lead for good, 50-48, on a drive by Turner with 2:13 left in the third quarter. That basket spawned a 13-5 run that left the Hunters with a 61-55 lead after three quarters.
Sylmar’s Daron Wilson scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jeremiah Turner added 21 points and Brandon Jacobs had 19.
