Council Too Eager to Blame Manager

We hear from some Oxnard City Council members that the city manager, Tom Frutchey, does not follow instructions of the council. It is the City Council who directs the city manager and staff and the council should accept the blame for their dissatisfaction and reassess their instructions.

Councilman Bedford Pinkard says he is not going to be lobbied by anyone and that he will make up his own mind; however, listening to all views of the public is part of being an elected official.

I don’t know the city staff or council members, but as an observer it seems this is nothing but a personal vendetta against the city manager.

It has been very interesting watching and listening to all of the uproar regarding whether the Oxnard city manager, Tom Frutchey, should be fired.

After hearing much from both sides, I am left with the following questions and observations. First, am I to understand that it is better to discontinue the seminars for training of employees and just hire more supervisors?

Second, do we just ignore the volunteers who work diligently to make our communities better and safer, and just listen to the politicians (past and present, and hopefuls), who don’t have a clue about what is actually going on in the day-to-day lives of residents?

Next, was the evaluation of Mr. Frutchey postponed politically so that when a new council member came on board there would be more items to bring up against him?

My observations are that Mr. Frutchey has done the job he was hired to do and should be allowed to remain in his position. If Oxnard is to be a city of the future, we must go forward, remove ourselves from the “good old boy” regime.
