‘Basics’ Kindergartens to Be Filled by Lottery
- Share via
Simi Valley parents who want their kindergartners to focus on the basics are encouraged to enter them in the lottery for one of two fundamental elementary schools next fall.
Both Hollow Hills and Vista fundamental schools will accept kindergarten applications for the 1997-98 school year starting Monday. Applications are due by Feb. 28 and parents will be notified of their enrollment status by March 7.
Because parents may participate in only one lottery, they should decide which fundamental school is most convenient for their family before applying, said Karen Dubrule, director of elementary education for the Simi Valley Unified School District.
Kindergarten preregistration for the district’s 17 other elementary schools will take place later in the spring.
An informational meeting for applicants to both Vista and Hollow Hills has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb 19 in the Vista multipurpose room. No child care will be available.
To be eligible for kindergarten during the upcoming school year, children must turn 5 by Dec. 2, 1997. A birth certificate must be presented at the time of registration. State law also requires verification of an immunization record for polio; diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis; and measles, mumps and rubella.
For more information, call Hollow Hills at 520-6720, or Vista at 520-6750.
Starting Monday, application forms will be available at Hollow Hills, 828 Gibson Ave., or Vista, 2175 Wisteria St.
