Herb, Sally Leo to Be Honored at Service

A memorial service will be held Thursday to pay tribute to Herb Leo, known as “Mr. Anaheim,” and his wife, Sally, a community volunteer, both of whom died late last year.

The public is invited to the 3:30 p.m. service at Power Community Church, 1026 S. East St.

Longtime friend Floyd Farano, an Anaheim attorney, said the couple “had done so much for the community that we felt it was more than fitting that the community pay tribute to them after their death.”

Herb Leo, 79, died Dec. 26 of complications from diabetes, and Sally Leo, 77, his wife of 57 years, died Dec. 8 of leukemia. The pair had retired to Prescott, Ariz., about nine years ago, Farano said.

Herb Leo was called Mr. Anaheim because he was “very influential in virtually every aspect of city life,” Farano said. Of the couple, he said, “Everywhere you look there are traces of what they’ve done.”

Herb Leo was involved in establishing the Anaheim Visitors and Convention Bureau and was active in the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, Anaheim Memorial Hospital, Boy Scouts, Crystal Cathedral and other groups.

Sally Leo was active in the Anaheim Ebell Club and Anaheim Beautiful, a civic group aimed at preserving and enhancing the appearance of the city.
