Directors of the Art Institute of Southern California say they will conduct a nationwide search for a successor to former President John W. Lottes, who died last month after holding the position since 1991.

“The board is forming a search committee,” spokeswoman Milly Muzzy said. “It’s expected it will take six to 12 months before a new president is appointed.”

At a memorial service for Lottes earlier this month, a new garden area called “Meditation Circle” was dedicated in the former president’s memory.

Lottes died Dec. 9 following a short illness. He was 62.

After his death, the board appointed James Godek as acting president. Godek has been the school’s chief financial officer since 1988.
