Congratulations on your editorial, “Opportunity in Disaster” (Jan. 23), urging the National Park Service to rebuild facilities in Yosemite only where they should be, not necessarily where they were.
There may be substantially less lodging and camping in the park during the transition. The public can help by staying in one of the gateway communities and being “day visitors” to Yosemite, and by discovering the nearby attractions outside the park; hiking, camping, white-water rafting, fishing and visiting historic sites. This will help Yosemite and also the gateway communities.
With funding from Congress and a supportive public, the NPS will be able to ensure that in the future the visitor’s experience in Yosemite is even more wonderful.
