Re “Famine Makes Capitalism No Longer a 4-Letter Word,” Opinion, Feb. 16: Isolationism no longer works in a global economy. The defection of Hwang Jang Yop, a national policymaker himself, gives clear indication of a crisis. Washington must act on the policies of 1996, to ensure stability in East Asia.
Pyongyang’s failure to develop a relationship with the rest of the world is destroying the lives of millions. The question is not if the North Korean government will fail and seek help. It is when and at what cost to the people of East Asia.
