PACOIMA — A 34-year-old man was killed Sunday evening when he was struck by an automobile in a hit-and-run accident, police said.
The accident occurred at 7:45 p.m. in the 13800 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, near Amboy Avenue, said Sgt. John Gambill of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
Police withheld the identity of the victim pending notification of relatives.
The victim was in the street when he was hit, although it was unclear whether he was at an intersection, Gambill said. The man died at the scene.
Witnesses described the auto that hit the man as a “black vehicle,” Gambill said. It was traveling at the 35-mph speed limit, struck the pedestrian, slowed, and then sped away, he said.
The investigation was continuing late Sunday.
