After nearly five hours, a dive team from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department called off its search Thursday for a 25-year-old who drowned in Irvine Lake a day earlier.
The seven-member dive team will resume its search for the Orange man either today or Monday, said Lt. Ron Wilkerson of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Despite rescue efforts by a friend in the 18-foot boat, the victim drowned Wednesday afternoon after falling into the water, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Because of darkness Wednesday, divers could not begin their search for the body until the next day.
The identities of neither the victim nor his two boat companions--a 31-year-old Garden Grove resident and a 43-year-old Anaheim resident--were released.
