Newbury Park Defeats Royal, Channel Islands

Jenny Kenyon and Joy Munson each won two events for Newbury Park High in a Marmonte League girls’ track and field victory over Royal and Channel Islands on Thursday.
Newbury Park (4-0, 2-0 in league play) won nine of 16 events to total 89 1/2 points. Royal finished with 55 1/2 points and Channel Islands 24.
Kenyon won the 100 meters in 12.7 seconds and the 200 in 26.4.
Munson placed first in the 400 and triple jump with marks of 1:02.2 and 35 feet 4 inches.
In other girls’ track and field meets:
Quartz Hill 87, Littlerock 49--Kenya Corley won two events and ran a leg on the victorious 400 relay team to help the Rebels (3-0) in a Golden League opener at Quartz Hill.
Corley, the defending Southern Section Division I champion in the long jump, leaped 17-10 in that event and cleared 5-4 in the high jump. She also ran the third leg on a foursome that clocked 49.0 in the 400 relay.
Palmdale 93, Highland 44--Edniesha Curry won the 200 in 26.0, the long jump at 17-3 1/2 and the triple jump at 35-1 to pace the Falcons (2-0) in a Golden League opener at Palmdale.
Andrea Neipp of Highland, the 1996 state Division II cross-country champion, won the 1,600 in 5:02.4 and the 800 in 2:39.0.
BOYS’ TRACK
Palmdale 107, Highland 39--Senior Marcus Carr and freshman Jerrik Holmes each won two events for the Falcons (2-0) in a Golden League opener at Palmdale.
Carr leaped 21-5 1/4 in the long jump and 44-1 1/2 in the triple jump.
Holmes clocked 50.5 in the 400 and cleared 6 feet in the high jump.
BOYS’ GOLF
Alemany 186, Loyola 201--Brian Woolf shot a two-under-par 33 to pace the Indians (6-0, 3-0) in a Mission League match at Porter Valley Country Club.
BOYS’ TENNIS
El Camino Real 5, Birmingham 2--The No. 2 doubles team of Steve Choi and Jason Paik defeated Mike Boukhanian and Jeff Melnick, 6-2, 6-3, to lead a doubles sweep for the Conquistadores (3-2, 2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Birmingham (3-2, 1-1).
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Canoga Park d. Poly, 14-16, 15-12, 15-13, 15-13--Bobby Wronkowski had 12 kills and five blocks and Ferlie Pasag had four aces for the Hunters (4-1, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Canoga Park.
Van Nuys d. Grant, 15-6, 15-8, 15-9--Larry Najera had 12 kills and five blocks to lead the Wolves (4-1, 2-0) over the Lancers (4-1, 1-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.
Quartz Hill d. Hart, 7-15, 17-15, 16-14, 15-6--Darren Haub had 20 kills and nine digs for the Rebels (3-1) in a nonleague match at Hart (2-3).
