Canyons Homer Unties Knot

Hiram Damwijk hit a tiebreaking three-run home run in the seventh inning and College of the Canyons went on to a 12-9 victory over Bakersfield Thursday in a Western State Conference baseball game at Valencia.
The homer was the sixth of the season for Damwijk, who drove in a run earlier on a bases-loaded walk.
Luis Sanchez had three hits and drove in two runs for Canyons (18-6, 8-2 in WSC play), and Kris Yeaman had three hits.
Reliever Kevin Hyde (3-0) was the beneficiary of Damwijk’s homer and Brock Benson pitched the final two innings to earn his fifth save.
Moorpark 6, Ventura 2--Nate Janowicz and Andy Huisenga each had three hits and two RBIs for the Raiders in a WSC game at Ventura.
Nick Lawson, Brandon Michaels and Cory Fish each had two hits for Moorpark (4-6).
Pierce 12, Valley 5--Josh Morgan tripled and doubled for the Brahmas (10-14, 4-6) in a WSC game at Valley.
Ray Montenegro had three hits for the Monarchs (2-19-3, 1-9).
Glendale 7, Mission 1--Shawn Lange (8-1) pitched a six-hitter for the Vaqueros (18-8, 7-3) and allowed the Free Spirit (10-12, 4-6) only an unearned run in a WSC game at Glendale.
Hancock 4, Oxnard 0--Mike Muller had two hits--including a double--and Jay Nirenberg added two hits for the Condors (11-13, 4-6) in a WSC game at Oxnard.
SOFTBALL
Moorpark 3, Canyons 1--Leah Barroso, Corinne Long and Danielle Stines each had two hits and drove in a run for the Raiders (12-13, 4-2) in a WSC game at Canyons (6-11, 2-3).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 5, USC 4--Isabela Petrov and Angela Lawrence combined to win the No. 1 doubles match and also posted singles victories for the Waves (11-4) in the nonconference match at USC.
Petrov defeated Ditta Huber, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 1 singles match for eighth-ranked Pepperdine. Lawrence beat Pam Trump, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 6 match.
MENS’ TENNIS
Cal Lutheran 5, Metro State 4--Mark Ellis beat Peter Lantz, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-6), at No. 1 singles for at Cal Lutheran (9-2).
