In other nonleague softball:
Irvine 4, Capistrano Valley 0--Colleen Young pitched a four-hitter and Heather McConnell hit a home run against her old team to lead Irvine (11-6).
Capistrano Valley (5-5-1) left eight runners on base and Irvine left seven.
Rosary 2, Kennedy 1 (8)--Michelle McCarthy doubled and scored the tying run in the seventh on a two-out error, and Erin Hogan scored the go-ahead run for Rosary in the eighth after a one-out single by Mary Ann Armen. Adrianna Wilson was three for three with a triple and a run scored for sixth-ranked Kennedy (10-4). Rosary improves to 10-4.
Santa Margarita 3, Aliso Niguel 0--Jackie Farmer and Katie Fisher combined to throw a one-hit shutout for seventh-ranked Santa Margarita (11-4-1).
St. Margaret’s 5, San Diego Francis Parker 0--Abbey Arnold (4-0) pitched a one-hitter, striking out 18, and also tripled and scored twice for St. Margaret’s (7-1).
Woodbridge 5-4, Fountain Valley 0-3 (8)--Christy Robitaille hit a one-out triple, scoring Nichole Thompson with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second game for third-ranked Woodbridge (18-2).
In the first game, Robitaille pitched a two-hit shutout for the Warriors. Fountain Valley dropped to 7-8.
In the Canyon softball tournament:
Bolsa Grande 5, El Dorado 4--Mary Petrie (11-5) pitched a four-hitter and was two for three with a home run and two runs scored for Bolsa Grande (11-6) in the fifth-place game. Desiree Cantrell was two for two with two RBIs for the Matadors.
Cypress 5, Valencia 3--Stacy Silva had two hits and three RBIs and Sasha Campbell had two hits to lead Cypress (8-4) to the consolation championship.
Ocean View 2, Murietta Valley 1 (8)--Kara Vanderhook and Daniella Garcia had RBI singles in the eighth for Ocean View in the consolation game. Leah Gulla had three hits and Sara Gulla (6-5) had 18 strikeouts for the Seahawks (7-6).
In Pacific Coast League boys’ swimming:
Laguna Hills 95, University 75--Matt Kwok won the 200-yard individual medley in a Southern Section qualifying time of 2 minutes 4.59 seconds.
In the Sea View League:
Santa Margarita 86, Irvine 84--Santa Margarita’s first and fourth-place finish in the last event, the 400 freestyle relay, was enough to give the Eagles the victory over second-ranked Irvine.
Philippe Demers, Frank Uxa and Matt Martin were double winners for Santa Margarita (4-1, 2-0), ranked third in the county. Demers’ winning butterfly time was the county’s fastest this season (51.62), as was his 200 IM (1:57.39). Irvine’s only victories came in the 200 medley relay (1:42.11), which was a county best.
In Pacific Coast League girls’ swimming:
Laguna Hills 107, University 63--Laguna Hills freshman Shauna Barnard won the 200 freestyle (1:55.00) and the 500 freestyle (5:03.78), posting the fastest times in the county for these events. Erin Hayes won the 50 free for University in 26.08. Laguna Hills is 5-2, 2-0.
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 88, Newport Harbor 82--Summir Case won two events, the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, to lead El Toro (2-0 in league). Teammate Lara Reaves won the 100 butterfly in a Southern Section qualifying time of 1:02.39 and was the leadoff swimmer in the winning 400 free relay (3:52.99).
Amy Murphy won the 200 (1:59.11) and 500 freestyle (5:19.67) for Newport Harbor.
Irvine 120, Santa Margarita 50--Irvine posted victories in all but one event. Sophomore Morgan Hoestery was a double winner for the Vaqueros.
In Orange League boys’ tennis:
Western 11, Brea Olinda 10--Jesmine Patel and Aidin Yousif won their last two sets to clinch the victory for Western (8-2, 1-0).
In Garden Grove league boys’ volleyball:
La Quinta 3, Garden Grove 2--Scott Ogilvie had 18 kills and eight blocks and Thien Vo had 45 assists for La Quinta (6-2, 4-0).
In the Golden West League:
Saddleback 3, Westminster 0--Hai Nguyen had 16 kills to lead Saddleback (6-1, 1-0) to a 15-9, 12-15, 15-12, 15-5 victory. Jared Barnes had 15 kills in the loss for Westminster (4-5, 0-2).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Aliso Niguel 3, Costa Mesa 0--Cory Chandler had 18 kills and Greg Shagam had 17 for Aliso Niguel (7-1, 1-0).
Laguna Hills 3, Estancia 0--Eugene Kim had 10 kills and Mike Rooks had eight kills to lead Laguna Hills (4-3, 1-0) over Estancia (0-3, 0-1), 15-3, 15-13, 15-7.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 3, Los Alamitos 0--Jon Alleman had 14 kills to lead Esperanza (5-1, 1-0) to a 15-6, 15-6, 15-6 victory.
