Wolverines End 25-Game League Losing Streak

Harvard-Westlake High broke a 25-game losing streak in the Mission League with a 9-3 baseball victory over St. Francis on Friday at Occidental College.
Matt Berkson had three hits and two runs batted in for the Wolverines (3-6, 1-1 in league play), who had not won a league game in three years and won only two games overall last season.
Berkson (3-2), the starting pitcher, struck out six in 6 2/3 innings. Berkson’s RBI single scored Adam Siegel in a four-run fourth inning.
“The kids let it go on the field and got the result they were looking for,” said Josh Smaler, Harvard-Westlake’s first-year coach.
Crespi 4, Loyola 2--Tim Leveque scattered four hits, gave up one earned run and struck out four in six innings for the Celts (11-5, 3-1) in a Mission League game at Valley College. Dean Robb retired the side in order in the seventh inning to earn his fourth save.
Burroughs 6, Burbank 1--Wes Hutchison pitched a two-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing one unearned run, for the Indians (9-4, 5-0) in a Foothill League game at Burroughs.
Royal 4, Newbury Park 3--Tyrone Kimbrough singled in Dan Daugherty with the winning run in the sixth inning for the Highlanders (7-6, 3-1) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park (8-8, 0-4).
Las Vegas Green Valley 6, Agoura 3--Chris Poling, Jeff Gould, and Brian Jacobsen each had two hits for the Chargers (7-5) against the four-time defending Nevada state champion in a nonleague game in Las Vegas.
Santa Paula 6, Nordhoff 5--Gil Segouis singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Cardinals (2-10, 2-3) in a Frontier League game at Santa Paula. Matt Palmer was four for four, including a double, for Santa Clara.
Calabasas 16, Malibu 4--Marc Wilson had three hits and scored twice for the Coyotes (14-2, 5-0) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.
Brian Fatur, Matt Sagoian and Chris Benta each had a home run for Calabasas.
Moorpark 11, Santa Clara 4--Ryan Yoshiwara had three hits and three RBIs for the Musketeers (8-7, 3-2) in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.
Justin Ames (4-3) allowed four hits and struck out 13 in six innings for Moorpark.
Michael Allen had a three-run triple for Santa Clara (4-6, 2-3).
L.A. Baptist 16, Marshall 2--Right-hander Tim Ferifeil (4-0) pitched a four-hitter, striking out nine and walking two, in an Alpha League game at Marshall. Ricky Wendt’s RBI single triggered a four-run third inning that gave the Knights (9-6, 3-0) a 6-0 lead.
Village Christian 3, Vasquez 0--Freshman Jeremy Gonzales pitched a no-hitter, striking out five and walking two, for the Crusaders (6-10, 3-1) in an Alpha League game at Village Christian.
St. Bonaventure 4, Bishop Diego 3--Mike Leeth had two RBIs and David Chaparro and Steve Corona each drove in one run for the Seraphs (7-6, 4-0) in a Tri-Valley League game in Ventura.
L.A. Lutheran 18, First Lutheran 3--Shaun Gates hit for the cycle and had six RBIs for the Lions (3-6, 2-1) in a Heritage League game at First Lutheran.
