Big Rig’s Brakes Fail; 6-Car Pileup Hurts 2

Two people were injured in a six-vehicle pileup Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer plowed into two cars, which were then pushed into several other cars, police said.
About 10 a.m., the big-rig was traveling south on State College Boulevard near Yorba Linda Boulevard when its brakes failed, causing the driver to veer off the roadway into a tree and a light pole, Police Investigator Lorraine Jones said.
“The driver then tried to avoid pedestrians on the sidewalk ahead, so he swerved to the left, and struck two vehicles stopping at a red light,” Jones said. “One of those vehicles were pushed into two other vehicles . . . and the hood of the tractor flew off and struck the bumper of a sixth vehicle.”
A 23-year-old man from Diamond Bar and a 21-year-old woman from La Mirada, both of whom were stopped at a red light, suffered minor injuries, Jones said.
