Concordia Defeats Point Loma Nazarene, 3-2

Pinch-hitter Matt France hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning and Concordia held on to defeat Point Loma Nazarene, 3-2, in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s baseball game Tuesday at Point Loma Nazarene.
Point Loma’s Ben Wujek had held the Eagles (17-21, 5-14) scoreless for six innings, but walked Matt Broesamle and Derek Patterson with one out in the seventh. Reliever Ruben Fontanes got a fly out, but then gave up the home run to France.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s softball:
Southern California College 3-1, Concordia 1-6--Gretchen Brandt struck out a career-high 11 batters and scattered four hits as Southern California College won the first game of a doubleheader. Carrie Shankles pitched a seven-hitter for Concordia in the second game.
In nonconference softball:
Long Beach State 2-4, San Diego 6-1--Tammy Dietrich pitched a three-hitter as Long Beach State (33-16-1) won the second game to split a doubleheader with San Diego State (24-18). Dietrich is 17-9.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 6, CS Northridge 3--Liz Yim and Patty Villaroman swept their singles sets and then teamed for an 8-4 victory in doubles for UC Irvine (9-12).
